Join us in writing this next chapter of our storybook. Help us reach our goal of $5,000 by our 4th birthday!
Project Ava started out in 2013 as a passion project by three undergraduate students at the University of Denver. Created within a miniscule dorm room, Project Ava was pieced together in between classes, homework, and bottomless cups of coffee. Why? Because we knew that there were just too many important stories to share. We believe traditional, mainstream media is dominated by privileged narratives. We believe elevating invisible narratives makes the world more aware and empowered. We believe that fostering understanding amongst people builds communities. We believe that meaningful stories can inspire change.
In our first year, Project Ava successfully produced a number of short films throughout Denver, CO. Our work ranged from spoken word pieces, to a music video for a fundraising event for the Aurora theater shooting and creative short films.
In 2014, Project Ava started an editorial and began our process of sharing stories in written word. When a few of our stories went viral, it was in this stage of our organization where we recognized the power of first-person narratives in any form of media.
As of 2016, Project Ava proudly holds a 501(c)(3) status and strive to provide a safe space for people who care to share what they care about. We feature Storytellers from all around the country who share meaningful stories from a wide range of topics on social justice and inequity. Our workshops on storytelling, media justice, and digital activism have been featured in conferences around the nation. Our Storytellers’ works have been published on Angry Asian Man, Everyday Feminism, and Huffington Post’s Outspeak.
But it’s time for us to write the next chapter in our storybook. And we want to write it with you.
In 2017-2018, we hope to grow our existing Storytelling Program in order to enhance the experience of our Storytellers and equip them with tools for social justice and advocacy. Your donations would support the development of a Storyteller Retreat in Denver, Colorado and sponsor our operations for the next year. As an organization run ENTIRELY by volunteers, bringing our Storytellers and volunteer staff together for the first time since our inception will be instrumental in helping us empower our Storytellers and build our national Storytelling community.
We can’t do this without you.
Your charitable contribution will:
- Support travel stipends for 15 Storytellers, many of them students, from across the nation to attend a Storyteller Retreat
- Shape Retreat programming, including the ability to feature guest speakers who are media advocacy experts
- Benefit travel for workshops/trainings and the creation of new and innovative curriculum on digital storytelling and advocacy
- Invest in operational costs of Project Ava for all of 2017-2018, including our website and storytelling platforms
- Create a storytelling toolkit that can be used as a resource and downloaded for free!
With your help, we can share stories to move the advocates of today and tomorrow.
Goal Amount: $5,000
